Meet Your Honoree: Ed Brady

The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh proudly honor Edmond P. Brady as our Man of the Year, a man whose life has been deeply rooted in family, faith, Irish heritage, and service.

Ed is a long-time supporter of the West Orange community and the Irish-American community at large throughout the Tri-State area.

Ed has a long and strong affiliation with the GAA and has spearheaded numerous fundraising events in support of the NY Minor Board and the development of the Redmond Field Complex in Yonkers.

For over 40 years Ed has been a CPA specializing in providing services to the police and fireman organizations, which hold a special place in his heart as his sons all serve or have served in law enforcement.

Shillelaghs Hit the Streets in Belmar

What a day it was! After an early morning muster at the Shillelagh Club, the bus transporting the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh - Essex Division made its' way down to Monmouth County for the start of the Belmar parade activities.

The festivities kicked off at St. Stephen’s Green in Sea Girt, where a hearty Irish breakfast fueled the lads for the day ahead. From there, we made our way to Tom Wester’s home for our traditional hello and a warming cup of Irish Coffee before setting off for the parade.

With heads high and banners waving, we proudly marched through the streets, cheered on by a lively crowd. Pipes played, spirits soared, and the joy of the day was felt by all.

As the parade came to a close, we made our way to the FSOS Old Bridge Clubhouse where we raised a final toast to St. Patrick, knowing we’ll be back next year for another unforgettable celebration.

Essex Shillelagh Pipes & Drums News

Greetings from the Band!

Parade Season is upon us and as the schedule demonstrates, our busy schedule for March started in Nutley on 3/1. We are hitting the street with 4 new members of the band who started last year with us as we continue to grow our ranks. We just finished playing at the Investiture on February 26, and we congratulate former bandmate Noel O'Keeffe, and all the 2025 Honorees for the West Orange Parade. It's going to be a great Month!

We provide free lessons on pipes and drums every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the club—open to anyone interested in learning! No matter the experience level, we’ll get new members involved, whether playing, holding a banner, or carrying a flag.

Come by, get involved, and be part of the Essex Shillelagh Pipe & Drum tradition!
